WHAT IS SMITHRX?
SmithRx is the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) that works hand-in-hand with Highmark to provide seamless integration between your medical plan and prescription drug program. SmithRx's information will be included on the Highmark medical ID card.
SmithRx specializes in finding cost savings solutions for members taking high-cost brand and specialty medications. Please see below some additional information about the SmithRx Assist, Connect, and Access Traditional programs, as well as the SmithRx Mail Order Program, all of which can help save you money.
Please note that SmithRx will make outreach via phone or email to any members on high-cost brand or specialty medications if they believe they can obtain the prescriptions at a lower cost to you. Please engage with SmithRx and answer any questions they may have pertaining to your prescription drug(s). If any of your dependents covered on PFN's Highmark medical plans are on a high-cost medication, SmithRx will reach out to you first. Please pass along the contact information of your dependent(s) so that SmithRx can work with them directly.
ASSIST PROGRAM
The SmithRx Assist Program finds you the lowest prescription cost option at the point of sale while taking into account your pharmacy benefits and total out of pocket cost. The end result is a lower copay for you!
There's nothing you need to do to enroll in the Assist Program as you are automatically enrolled! All you need to do is present your SmithRx ID card to the pharmacy as normal and SmithRx will automatically find the best deal.

Taking a maintenance medication and want it delivered straight to your door? Members have several options for mail order prescriptions.

Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs
Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs is pursuing the mission of prescription drug affordability by building an innovative pharmacy model that delivers medications at cost, plus a straightforward 15% markup, along with a $3 dispensing fee and shipping. SmithRx is one of only a few PBMs partnered with Cost Plus Drugs and members can use their SmithRx card when they enroll to only pay their standard mail order copay.

SMITHRX CONNECT PROGRAM
If you are taking a high-cost or specialty medication, SmithRx is made for you! Going to your local retail or specialty pharmacy may not always be the lowest-cost option, so the SmithRx Connect program helps members evaluate alternative sources for receiving medications. Alternative sources may include Manufacturer's Assistance Programs, where the manufacturer of your prescription offers financial support to those taking their drug under a certain income threshold, or International Sourcing, where you are able to receive your prescription from outside of the U.S. (like Canada, for example), where it costs less.
Either way, the result will save you money since many of these Manufacturer's Assistance or International Sourcing programs require little to no copayment on your medication. For more information on SmithRx Connect, click the button below.
COPAY MAXIMIZATION PROGRAM
The Copay Maximization Program is a part of the Connect Program that helps the pharmacy apply copay coupons to medications that help reduce the cost of prescriptions for you. This is similar to programs such as GoodRx, however, this is all done automatically as SmithRx will reach out to members if your medications qualify for the Copay Maximization Program to start the transition process.
The cost of the medications through this program will never exceed your copay. In fact, you will often pay less. Depending on your medication, you may pay nothing at all.
