INTRODUCTION
Hapag-Lloyd strives to provide you and your family with a comprehensive and valuable benefits package. We want to make sure you're getting the most out of our benefits - that's why we've put together this Employee Benefits Guide.
Open Enrollment is a short period each year when you are permitted to make changes to your annual benefit elections. This guide will outline all the different benefit options, so you can identify which offerings are best for you and your family. Open Enrollment for the 2025 Plan Year will begin on Monday, November 25th, and will run through Monday, December 10th.
HIGHLIGHTS
NEW! MEDICAL & PRESCRIPTION DRUG: Hapag-Lloyd offers two medical plan options now administered through Anthem BlueCross BlueShield. Please refer to the MEDICAL page for more information on the transition to Anthem for the Medical plans.
DENTAL: You will have two dental plan options to choose from. Dental plans will remain administered by Delta Dental. There will be no plan design changes.
VISION: Vision will continue to be provided through VSP Vision. There will be no plan design changes.
LIFE, AD&D AND DISABILITY INSURANCE: Basic Life/AD&D, Voluntary Life/AD&D, Disability, and FMLA will now be offered by Transamerica.
VOLUNTARY OFFERINGS: Your voluntary benefits will now be administered by Transamerica.
SPENDING ACCOUNTS: Baker Tilly Vantagen will continue to administer all Health Flexible Spending Accounts, Dependent Care Spending Accounts, and Limited purpose Spending Accounts. Inspira will continue to adminster Health Savings Accounts. There will be more details on this on the Spending Accounts page.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: The Cigna Medical Benefits Abroad, Zurich Business Travel Accident, Pet Insurance, Home & Auto, and LifeLock Identity Theft Protection will continue to be offered with no changes.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All Full-Time Employees regularly working 37.5 or more hours per week are eligible for benefits, or at least 30 hours per week to be eligible for Medical Insurance. Coverage will generally begin on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.
DEPENDENT COVERAGE
Employees who are eligible to participate in Hapag-Lloyd's benefit programs may also enroll their dependents in medical, dental, and vision benefits. For the purpose of our benefit plans, your dependents are defined as follows:
- Your spouse
- Your children up to the age of 26 regardless of student status, marital status, financial dependence or residence
- Your children of any age who are mentally or physically disabled and depend on your support
QUALIFIED CHANGE OF STATUS
Unless you experience a life-changing qualifying event, you cannot make changes to your benefits until the next open enrollment period. Any allowable changes must be reported within 31 calendar days of the event. You must also provide proof of the Qualifying Life Event.
Qualifying Events include:
- Marriage
- Birth, adoption or placement for adoption of an eligible child
- Divorce or annulment
- A significant change or loss of health coverage due to a change in your spouse’s employment status
- Spouse’s enrollment period
- A change in your employment status
- Death of a spouse or dependent
- Loss of dependent status
- Loss or gain of FMLA status
- Becoming eligible for Medicare during the year
- Gain or loss of eligibility for Medicaid or a Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)/gain or loss of eligibility for a premium assistance subsidy under Medicaid or CHIP (60-day special election period)
- Receiving a Qualified Medical Child Support Order (QMCSO)
- Change in childcare or elder care provider, change in cost, or change in coverage. This applies to a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA) only.
